On 11th July 2010, after several weeks rehearsals some 30 of the choir performed Karl Jenkins’ new “Gloria”, at the RAH, which we are bringing to Lancaster in November!
We welcome people of all ages and abilities: experience is not essential and there is no formal audition. We have members who are new to singing and some who don’t read music.
A few words of introduction from our retiring Membership Secretary Sue Chippendale.
Do come and sing with us. Lancaster and District Choral Society is a large mixed voice choir with its origins dating back to 1836. Although our repertoire is grounded in classical music we sing a wide range of pieces from classical and contemporary composers.
In addition to our musical activities we have a good social programme with events throughout the year. The Society has participated in several performances by the “Really Big Chorus” at the Royal Albert Hall (RAH) in London. In 2006, we performed in Verdi’s “Requiem”, as a preliminary to our own production at the Ashton Hall, Lancaster in 2007. In 2008, a group from the choir participated in Karl Jenkins’ “The Armed Man”, after our own performance. Also, in July 2009, some of us participated in John Rutter’s “Requiem” conducted by the composer himself. In all instances taking in shopping and shows.

Directions to the New Rehearsal Venue (Sept 2010)
Jacky Ireland - our new
membership secretary
Kath Mills - our hardworking
rehearsal accompanist.
However, the music being rehearsed is introduced carefully to allow for ease of learning. We meet on Monday nights, from the beginning of September until late April or early May.
Rehearsals start at 7 p.m. and finish around 9.30 p.m. with a break for a chat and a cup of tea. Please NOTE that the new rehearsal venue does not have a kitchen, so members will have to arrange their own refreshments for the interval.
