Rossini
 Petite messe solennelle

2024 Autumn Concert

Saturday 23rd November 2024

The Great Hall, Lancaster University
LA1 4YW

7:30 pm

A warm welcome to you from
Lancaster and District Choral Society

For our autumn concert, we invite you to experience the exquisite beauty of Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle.

Composed in 1863, this remarkable work is one of Rossini's final compositions and showcases his operatic style with the words of the Solemn Mass.

Scored for four soloists, choir, piano, and harmonium, the Petite Messe Solennelle is a blend of intimate chamber music and grand choral writing, rich with emotion, complexity and vast dynamic contrasts.

Lancaster and District Choral Society will perform Rossini's masterpiece as originally intended with piano and harmonium accompaniment and four professional soloists. In the hands of our expert conductor John Perrin, it promises to be a magnificent concert.

Don’t miss this opportunity to experience this rare performance of Rossini's Petite Messe Solenelle.

Good God

There you have it, finished, this poor little Mass. Is it really sacred music that I have just written, or just damn music? I was born for comic opera, as You know well! A little bit of skill, a little bit of heart, and that’s all. May you be blessed and grant me Paradise.
