Mendelssohn Elijah

Mendelssohn's Elijah - 2025 Spring Concert

Saturday 12th April 2025

The Great Hall, Lancaster University
LA1 4YW

7:30 pm

A warm welcome to you from
Lancaster and District Choral Society

For our spring concert, we invite you to experience the dramatic and awe-inspiring music of Mendelssohn’s Elijah.

It promises to be a performance not to be missed!

First performed in England in 1846 at Birmingham Town Hall, this magnificent oratorio tells the story of Elijah’s courage, faith, and fiery confrontation with false prophets, capturing moments of intense drama and profound beauty.

Mendelssohn’s masterful composition breathes life into the narrative with triumphant choruses, deeply moving arias, and vibrant orchestration.

This masterpiece of Romantic choral music offers an emotional journey through themes of perseverance, devotion, and redemption, with music that ranges from the thunderous to the tender. From the desperate cries to Baal of the people on Mount Carmel to the serene “still small voice” on Mount Horeb, Mendelssohn’s Elijah is a musical experience like no other.

With the Lancaster and District Choral Society, under the expert baton of our conductor John Perrin, this promises to be an exciting and unforgettable performance.

Join us on 12th April at the Great Hall, Lancaster University, for a fulfilling evening of culture. Don’t miss it!
